Gifted with a diverse range of natural attractions like beaches, backwaters and hill stations to a rich cultural heritage, Kerala is truly a land befitting the very Gods. Where every nook and corner is a destination by itself. And to make these locales more attractive, the Department of Tourism is taking steps to improve the facilities and infrastructure. Setting up of amusement parks and recreation centres at destinations with tourism potential has been given top priority and investors will stand to benefit from attractive subsidies.

Project requirements

  • Amusement Parks also include theme parks, children's parks, water parks etc.
  • Recreation Centres include swimming pools, children's playgrounds, gardens, golf courses, water sports, boats, indoor/outdoor courts/stadiums, auditoria etc.
  • The scheme of approval is restricted to those centres which are located at the 24 tourist centres defined in the Destination Kerala Scheme of the Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala.
  • Every project will be meticulously appraised by the special committee constituted for the purpose.

Documents to be enclosed with the application

  • Project report establishing the feasibility of the proposed centre and describing the amenities to be provided at the centre.
  • Suitability of the proposed project site. This will be based on accessibility and basic infrastructure like water supply, electricity and other communication facilities.
  • Permit from the local authority with copy of the approved plan and proof of ownership of land.
  • Ownership details
    • Name and business antecedents of the promoters
    • Proposed ownership structure giving full details as to whether the new undertaking will be owned by individual(s) or a firm or a company.
    • Estimated cost of the project and the manner in which it is proposed to raise funds to meet the cost.
  • A detailed site sketch showing the location of the project with respect to the nearest major transportation network.

Application procedure

Your application should be submitted in the prescribed format available at the Department of Tourism, accompanied by a non-refundable fee of Rs. 5,000/- for amusement park and Rs. 2,000/-for recreation centre in the form of a Demand Draft favouring the Director, Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala.

Incentives & Supports

  • Amusement Parks and Recreation Centres approved by the Kerala State Department of Tourism are eligible for investment subsidy up to 10% subject to a ceiling of Rs. 10 lakhs
  • Support to avail loans from state financial corporations
  • Concession in electricity charges
  • Guidance and publicity support from the State Government
